Mapping Greeks in the East

Greek communities in Anatolia and the Levant have long histories, and many can be traced back to antiquity. However, much of what we know about the recent histories of these communities comes from nineteenth century sources and population statistics.

Using historical and demographic sources, this interactive map visualises the location of Greek communities in Anatolia and the Levant in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, prior to the Population Exchange in 1923/1924. Population estimates are approximate based on various sources.
